Bengal gram/Black chickpeas/Kala chana is packed with proteins and fiber. It's used in a variety of ways. This is a simple recipe that can be served as a snack, or as a breakfast item.

Ingredients:

1 cup black chickpeas

2 garlic cloves chopped

1 tsp mustard oil

salt as per taste

1 green chili chopped

coriander leaves chopped

lemon juice

Method:

Wash the black chickpeas well and soak them in around 5 cups of water overnight. Boil in a pressure cooker using the same water with 1/2 tsp salt and let it whistle 8-10 times on a medium flame. Let the cooker cool down completely. Drain the water using a colander and transfer the black chickpeas to a bowl.

Add all the remaining ingredients above, a little salt/black salt, and mix well. Enjoy this protein-packed healthy dish for a snack or breakfast!

Note - You can also use sprouted black chickpeas. For sprouts to grow, after soaking overnight and straining the water, let them remain in the colander for 1-2 days at room temperature and cover them with a perforated lid. Stir a couple of times in between.

Black chickpeas can be boiled in advance and kept in the fridge. This dish can be prepared quickly anytime when needed.
